North Island Limousin Breeders’ Bull 21st Trial Sale - Outstanding Bulls Sell Well

The North Island Limousin Breeders held their celebratory 21st Bull Trial Sale on Tuesday 2 June on the Limax property on Bucklands Road, Matamata (just down the road from Hobbiton).  The threatened torrential rain and thunderstorm did not eventuate and did not deter buyers.

Top price of $6,700 went to Huntlands Gideon, a Mandayen Guardian A488 son, bred by Robert and Marion Hunt.  Gideon was 564kg on entering the trial as a yearling, the heaviest bull  on offer at this year’s trial (776kg) and he had the second highest daily weight gain of bulls in the trial. His new home will be in Taumaranui where he was bought by Wayne and Jocelyn Crombie, “Brondelwayne”. The Hunts also sold the $4000 third priced bull, Huntlands Goboy.

Dorothy and Hein Kroef maintained their reputation of producing consistently high quality bulls with a Highlander son, Mangatawhiri Joseph, gaining the second top price of $5,700. Springfalls Farm in Tuakau will be Joseph’s new home.

The average auction price was just over $3700 per bull.

The bulls were presented in top order, with some of the best weights in the last few years of the sale, a credit to the grazier, Richard and Diana Maxwell.
