26th North Island Limousin Beef Breeders' Bull Trial Underway
18 yearling Limousin bulls arrived at the trial farm in early September this year.
All bulls are registered. They will all be farmed under the same conditions at 26 Buckingham Rd, Mangatawhiri until the sale on June 4, 2020. Under the watchful eye of experienced Limousin breeders, Dorothy and Hein Kroef they will be weighed each month and undergo thorough assessment on a wide range of attributes. It is an ideal opportunity to observe the performance of a range of Limousin genetics. Visitors to the weigh days are always welcome, with the next weigh on the 16th Dec 2019.
Frank Rientjes has taken over from Robert Hunt, in the role of Convenor for this year and he commented at the recent NILB AGM that it was the widest range of genetics he had seen in all his years involved in the trial.
Bulls have been entered into the trial by Kivlean, Grayleen, Ngarimu, Huntlands and Mangatara Limousin studs. There is a mix of NZ Genetics and Overseas, AI and natural matings. There are black bulls and apricot bulls.
The bulls are growing quickly with the good grass growth of the last two months. Mid November they averaged 503kg after averaging 1.3kg per day growth. The heaviest bull is already 598kg.
If you are interested in joining us for any of the monthly weighings contact Frank Rientjes (027 436 5023) or any of the breeders involved.
